I am Professor Edoba Omoregie, SAN, Vice Chancellor, University of Benin. I welcome you to the University of Benin; a first generation university and one of the most sought after tertiary institutions in sub-Sahara Africa. Our University was established on 23rd November, 1970; first, as the Midwest Institute of Technology and later renamed University of Benin.

With two(2) Colleges, seventeen (17) Faculties/Schools, seven (7) Centres of Excellence and four(4) Institutes, our commitment to excellent knowledge delivery in the last fifty-five years of existence has culminated in a world class university that boasts of high calibre faculty staff and top notch technology-driven teaching,research as well as robust community engagement, inspired by hardwork, resilience and comradery.

The University of Benin community enjoys an ambience of great hospitality among staff, students, alumni and other relevant stakeholders that is right for learning and self -actualisation.

As the 11th Vice Chancellor of the University and first full-fledged alumnus to head the institution, I am determined to accelerate the university’s performance in order to ensure increased global visibility and to place it on a pedestal of international reckoning. In that regard and more, our focus is subsumed, primarily, in our Five-point Agenda which are:

  • Strengthening our degree programmes in sync with emerging national and global trends.
  • Positioning the University as an innovative capacity-building and skills acquisition hub across professions, disciplines, and vocations.
  • Paying greater attention to staff and students' welfare.
  • Improving the infrastructure of the University with special focus on multiple electricity access, functional internet service, conducive hostel and office facilities, and environmentally friendly initiatives.
  • Forging harmonious relationships with staff and students' unions as well as the immediate neighbouring communities.
