VC'S PG FOREWORD
Just a year ago, I wrote the Forward to the 2010 edition of the University of Benin Prospectus. Between 2010 and 2011, a lot of changes have taken place not only in the postgraduate degree offerings of the University but also in the staffing quality and the administrative directorate of the School of Postgraduate Studies. New programmes have been added to bring the number of courses and fields of specialization to 174 from the previous 172. The quality of teachers/researchers has also taken a quantum leap forward with the infusion of more renowned high level staff and the elevation of over 50 academics to the professorial cadre for research and supervisory quality delivery. The new management of the School of Postgraduate studies, headed by Professor Esosa Bob Osaze and Dr. F.E. Osagiede as Dean and Assistant Dean respectively, has introduced dramatic and far-reaching reforms in the research process. Not only do students know when they would start and complete their programmes but greater rigour and environmental relevance has been introduced into research projects.
With these reforms, driven by a committed Dean and his assistant and directed by a focused Postgraduate School board, there is no doubt that the University of Benin will continue to excel with its peers in research.
I am proud to be associated with the flagship of the university’s academic programmes and the reforms taking place therein. We are committed to international best practices and this is what these reforms are about. I recommend the 2011 University of Benin School of Postgraduate Studies Prospectus to all and sundry seeking top flight postgraduate education.
