The School of Postgraduate Studies of the University of Benin has grown to become one of the foremost centres of training for academics, researchers and high level professionals in other Universities, research institutions and the public/private sector within and outside Nigeria We are proud to be associated with the success stories of other Postgraduate Schools which we have mentored and consulted for.  Our pedigree is exemplified in the quality of the research output of our products both in Nigeria and the Diaspora.  Having grown from producing just one Ph.D and 17 Masters degrees in 1982/83 to over 200 and 600 doctorates and masters degrees respectively in 2011, we are indeed proud to say we have fulfilled our pledge in the University of Benin Anthem of being “robed in (our) purple and  gold, clad in (our) fertile  green hem, knowledge for service untold”.
The quality of teaching and research at the postgraduate level in the University has grown tremendously with the attraction of well-known academic experts from far and wide both on sabbatical leave and permanent appointment.  We wish to continue to use the instrumentality of the School of Postgraduate Studies to actualize the mission of the University of Benin which is “to develop the human mind to be creative, innovative, research oriented, competent in areas of specialization, knowledgeable in entrepreneurship and dedicated to service”.
The 2011 Prospectus brings up to date the portfolio of programmes and human capacity for driving the research process forward.  These  include 174 Postgraduate Diploma, Masters and Doctoral courses in various fields of human endeavour across thirteen Faculties, three Institutes and one College of Medical Sciences.
Putting this Prospectus together and elevating the research process further has been the collective effort of the Board and staff of the Postgraduate School, ably led and directed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. O.G. Oshodin.  Users are herein invited to share deep knowledge with us at the University of Benin.
