Sociology and Anthropology

The Department  of Sociology  and Anthropology which began in September 1972 as a sub-section of the Department of Social Studies, became an autonomous and full fledged department in July 1977. The Department today is not only running Undergraduate Programmes but also Postgraduate Programmes for the M.sc and Ph.D and for Undergraduate Diploma Programme in Social work.

Aims and Objectives
The Department aims through Concepts,Theories, Methods and Ethnographic Data to equip students with knowledge of the Cultural and Social World  for themselves and for the benefit of Nigeria, Africa and the whole World . It is desirous of giving the students a balance and broad based training in the art of examining and analyzed Cultural and Social Systems . The Programme will also endeavor to serve students in this Department in the Humanities , Social Science, Education and to other disciplines whose activities , are related to the study of human cultures and Societies.
