President Olusegun Obasanjo says that the federal government is elated with the University of Benin for the international honours bestowed on Nieria over the university's rating as the second best commonwealth university of the year 2006.
In a letter personally signed by president olusegun obasanjo dated January 04, 2007, and addressed to the vice-chancellor, professor E.A.C. Nwanze, the president described the performance of the University of Benin in the commonwealth competition as “very uplifting news” that should be celebrated, and a positive evidence of the reform programme of the federal government.
President Obasanjo ascribed the second position won by the university out of the 945 university in 53 english-speaking countries in the commonwealth nation to “the positive results of our commitment to institutional and structural reforms in the nation’s educational sectors”
university of benin was the only institution in sub-saharan Africa to scale the high profile educational assessment with the unique selling points massively deployed ICT facilities in student services, and community-relevant researches.
President obasanjo advised the vice-chancellor and the entire management team of the University of Benin to remain focused on sustaining the high standard in academics and intellectual activities as well as practical innovations now associated with the University of Benin.
University of benin, earlier nominated in September, last year amongst the best five university in the commonwealth was the only in Nigerian and west Africa.
