of Business Administration, the accounting subject area in this University can claim to be as old as the
Faculty of Social Sciences itself. As a sub-unit, first within the Department of Economics and Business
Studies (from 1975 to 1977), and later the Department of Business Administration from (1977 to 1981).
Accounting constituted a very important component of the B.Sc (Economics) and B.Sc (Business Administration) degree programmes.
The Accounting degree option however became available as one of the major areas of concentration in the
Department of Business Administration in 1979/80. As from 1981/1982 the Department of Accounting has awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science Honours in Accounting yearly.
With its innovative approach to instruction and a relatively young crop of dedicated faculty members, the Department is already poised to becoming one of the leading Schools of Accounting in the country
