CRITICAL FACTORS IN WORK SEARCH PATTERNS AMONG AGRICULTURAL SCHOOL GRADUATES IN NIGERIA

One of the major goals of post secondary education production process is the preparation of its clients for the world of work. This research is therefore an attempt to investigate the critical factors in work search pattern among agricultural school graduates in Nigeria. Two hundred and fifty subjects were studied in detail using the (CFWSPQ) to collect data. Chi-square and multiple regression co-efficient were used in analyzing the data.

CRITICAL ROLE CUM RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ATTENTION DEMAND IN SPORT AND ANXIETY

Attention is a long-standing subject of discussion and investigation within psychology. The first description of attention was made by James (1890). According to him, it is taking possession by the mind, in clear and vivid form, of one out of what seems several simultaneously possible objects or trains of thought. Focalization, concentration of consciousness are its essence. It implies withdrawal from some things in order to deal effectively with others and in condition which has a real opposite in the confused, dazed, scatterbrained state referred to as discretion.

Critical thinking skills: An imperative for teaching and learning Business Education

This paper aimed to survey the imperatives of critical thinking skills to the teaching and learning of business education having regard to the challenges the society and individuals need to deal with today. The paper considered what critical thinking means, the rationale for critical thinking, characteristics of critical thinking skills. It concluded that for business education students to effectively apply content ideas, principles, theories, logically test phenomenon, evaluate and draw relevant conclusions to real life situations, critical thinking skills are very germane.

Crossed Ectopic Testis: A case report and Review of literature

Crossed or transverse ectopic testis is a rare anomaly of testicular descent. It has been noted that fewer than 100 cases have been reported in the world literature. In this paper, we report a new case found in a 6-month old infant operated on in West Africa for an obstructed right inguinoscrotal hernia.

Cultivation of a selected sporophore- only- producing strain of the edible and medicinal mushroom, Pleurotus tuberregium (Fr.) Singer (Agaricomycetideae) on waste paper and plantain peelings

Growth and sporophore yield in strain Pt-Omon 13 of Pleurotus tuberregium (Fr) Singer on substrates made of waste paper  (WP), plantain peelings (PP) and different combination of WP and PP was investigated. Sporophores were produced on substrates and substrate combinations tested. A substrate combination containing 80% by weight of waste paper gave the highest sporophore yield, at 43.78 ± 5.1 (Fresh weight) per 100g.

Cultivation of Lentinus squarrosulus (Mont.) Singer on sawdust of selected tropical tree species

Lentinus squarrosulum (Mont.) Singer was cultivated on the sawdust of five economic tropical tree species. The sawdust of the following trees namely; Celtis sp, Guera cedrata, Nesogordenia papaverifera and Brachystegia nigerica; were collected during processing at the sawmill. The pure culture of the mushroom used in this study was that of strain. LS001UBNIG obtained from the mushroom bank of the Botany department, University of Benin, Benin City Nigeria. The planting spawn of this mushroom was raised on sorghum –based material.

This is so not because of a lack of recognition of these rights, but rather, because of cultural barriers and practices that have made the realization of these rights a rather more difficult task in Africa than is the case in the western world. These cultural barriers are termed cultural authoritarianism within the context of this paper.

Cutaneous Tuberculosis in Nigerian rural communities: a case report

The incidence of tuberculosis has declined worldwide with increased health education, improved standard of living and immunization programmes. With the HIV-AIDS pandemic, however, there has been an increase in the number of cases reported. Even at that, cutaneous tuberculosis is rare in large dermatology clinics1-4. Although tuberculosis is now uncommon in developed cities in Nigeria, it must be recognized and promptly treated among the underprivileged and the immunocompromised5.

Cytotoxic genotoxic effects of cassava effluents using Allium cepa assay

Agricultural waste generated from pilled cassava tubers contribute significantly to pollution of the environment. In this study, we investigated the potential genotoxic effects of the effluents obtained from the processing of cassava tubers into three popular Nigerian cassava meals;  garri, lafun and akpu using the modified Allium cepa assay. A series of 10 onion bulbs were cultivated in 0.001, 0.01, 0.1, 1.0 and 10% concentrations (effluents, v/v) of each of the test samples (garri, lafun and akpu).

DAY CASE CATARACT SURGERY AS OUTREACH PROGRAMME (A Preliminary Report)

This is a preliminary report of an ongoing day case cataract surgery as an outreach programme by the Eye Department f the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Benin City. This is the first time Cataract Surgery (Day Case) Outreach of this nature is being carried out in this part of the country. Being the first, several difficulties and constraint were experienced namely, poor turn out of patients, difficulty in mobilizing the patients and problems with the selection of appropriate health centers.

Demand And Utilisation Of Labour Analgesia Service By Nigerian Women

This study sought to determine the clinical correlates of the demand and utilisation of labour analgesia resources by Nigerian women in labour. All consenting women were interviewed on arrival at the Unit and while in labour. Biodata, options for relief of labour pain, request for analgesia, method of analgesia, VAS score and cervical score at time of request for analgesia were obtained. A total of 288 women in labour were studied.

The paper highlights the fact that a pertinent characteristics of a democratic society is the full realization  through active participation in the democratic process. The paper recommends that the government should engage in activities that really brings the dividends of democracy  to the people because it is only when this happens that one can say that democracy has led to national development.

Demographic Research and the Attainment of Millenium Development Goals

The Millenium Development Goals (MDG) include reducing poverty and hunger, educating all children, empowering women, saving children, caring for mothers, combating diseases, using resources wisely and working together. This paper focused on combating diseases in the Niger-Delta and contends that social issues are involved in the incidence of diseases like malaria. Consequently, social workers can contribute to combating disease in Niger-Delta and should be given the chance to do so. Social work and health care share common goals and objectives.

DENTAL CARIES IN MYOPIA AND NONMYOPIC NEGRIOD YOUNG ADULTS

Dental caries and myopia have been suggested to be influenced by a defect in collagen. Dental caries was quantified and refractive status determined among 60 young adult subjects with a history of dental caries. The subjects were further divided into myopes and non-myopes. A significant difference was found in the number of carious teeth in the myopes and non-myopes (z =3.15 p< 0.05).

DESENSITIZATION OF RESPONSES TO NORADRENALINE AND POTASSIUM CHLORIDE IN THE RAT TAIL ARTERY

Previous investigators could not account for the factors causing the initial decline between the first and subsequent responses. They rather had neglected the first  few responses or the first concentration response curve (CRC) in the name of allowing the tissue to stabilize. The second or even the third CRC is often taken to represent the control curve for the analysis of drugs.

Design and manufacture of automobile disk brake pad test rig

An experimental Brake Pad test rig was designed and manufactured using readily available materials. The equipment was designed to test automobile disc brake pad wear and effectiveness at various speeds and braking force. To determine its functionality a war test was conducted on a commercial brake pad at various speeds and braking forces.

This article explains the concept of design education and its impact in building an extraordinary perceptual and conceptual power in the girl-child. It further examines the roles of teachers and parents in projecting the integration of design education into the curriculum of Nigerian schools.
