A SEMIOTIC STUDY OF NIGERIAN NEWSPAPER OBITUARIES

This study is a semiotic analysis of Nigerian newspaper obituaries (NNO). A semiotic approach explores meaning potentials and how meaning is communicated in a text. The study involves identifying the constituent units in a semiotic system and how these units interact to communicate meaning. The units are the features of the

text, the signs within the text and the interpretative codes that give these signs meaning.
